Andrew Staniland is an English Romantic poet whose poems are classical in style and whose source of inspiration is contemporary spiritual practice.

 

He was born in Sheffield in 1959 and studied Politics at the University of Durham. Since graduating in 1980, he has worked part time, dedicating his life to writing, to his imagination, to meditation and inner exploration.


From the 1990s, there are Four Plays and Three Cine-Poems, as well as many of the poems in Poems (1982-2004). From the 2000s onwards, there are two prose-poem novels, The Weight Of Light and The Beauty Of Psyche, Two Story Poems and the collections New Poems (2006), Hymns, Films And Sonnetinas (2007), The Perennial Poetry (2011), Rhapsodies (2015) and Playful Poems.


Playful Poems is being published in Feb 2018 by Kalyna Language Press. The previous books were self-published in either commercial or private editions. Andrew's poems have been published in various magazines and the anthology Into The Further Reaches. He had an early play performed on the London Fringe and wrote and directed a short film which was screened at various festivals.
